In the future freight forwarders face the dilemma of keeping their costs down while still providing top-notch services to their clients. The rising cost of fuel and labor means that at some point the industry will have to revise their work methods in order to continue offering a competitive service. Otherwise, businesses that find shipping costs eat into their bottom line too much, may decide that they will only service a more local clientele or find alternate means of providing for their customers.

The freight forwarding industry will continue to thrive regardless. However, its growth might slow down some in the future without it is able to meet the infrastructure demands required of a constantly growing shipping industry. No matter what happens, the outlook for the world's freight forwarders is still rosy.

The Training Paradox – Train Them and They’re More Valuable to Me and My Competitors!

Training is a paradox. If you train your staff, they are not just more valuable to you, they are also more valuable to your competitors. Once they have your training, maybe they will simply leave.

The Solution:

o Hire those who learn fast

o Use just-in-time training

For years consultants have told me to train my employees, that training makes them more productive. But when I do, the employees often walk out the door and some other company gets the benefit of all the money and time I spent!

Like a lot of businesspeople, this advice bugged me and confused me. I knew it was true: better-trained people performed better. Then I started implementing just-in-time training.

This approach is much better, and your competitors don’t get a freebie. Create valuable bundles of tasks and responsibilities for new employees-meaningful roles-as soon as they join you. Creating doable, real roles early on requires unbundling the elements of more complex existing roles and creating new, narrower jobs that people learn quickly to start contributing immediately.

This approach gives your employees a great sense of ownership in their work. It also leads to a greater quality commitment, since their reputations are tied directly to observable results within their control. As a person gets up to speed on each set of tasks and begins performing them ably, your goal is to keep adding new responsibilities. Train them in stages for each new work bundle.

The good news is that you can give pieces of important work to people who don’t yet have the depth and wisdom for the whole job. However, you can’t just do it and walk away. This requires a high degree of engagement-ongoing negotiation, coaching, and measuring-from you and your managers.

The real challenge for your company is to create an environment in which all your employees are, to some extent, knowledge workers. That means training everybody, but not for the long haul. Train one hour, one day, and one week at a time.

Most people today want to learn what they need to learn when they need to learn it-and not because they are lazy or have short attention spans. Learning just-in-time is the only way to learn given the tidal waves of information we all deal with. We must be strategic about learning. “Will this be useful today or tomorrow?” becomes the key question.

There are hundreds of corporate universities in the U.S., including a high percentage at Fortune 500 companies. They range from bad to excellent, just like “real” universities. But this is the future-specific skills to do specific jobs in your company now.

Yes, put new employees through boot camps. But if you used to do a ten-day camp, make it three days and get them out working faster. Then follow up regularly with half-day, specific training.

If you want real talent in your new hires, focus on their ability to learn quickly and reduce your focus on the skills they bring now.

Once hired, employees are matched with an initial relatively simple job or task. Deliver training to get them exactly what they need to know so they can be job-ready tomorrow or next week. Then an experienced employee spends the minimum time necessary to teach the new worker how to accomplish the first task.

The new person does not shadow the more experienced person, taking notes, watching and expecting to learn by osmosis. Rather it is a low-cost, one-on-one boot camp for maximum impact fast.

Whenever fresh responsibilities are added to the new person’s job, somebody with more experience provides hands-on instruction-always the minimum amount to ensure that new responsibilities are learned.

Will your employees lose the big picture with this ‘piecemeal’ training? Potentially they could. The low cost way to avoid it (and also build teamwork) is regular team meetings to keep everyone informed of your strategy.

How to Ace the Role-Play in the Interview

After working in this industry for nearly twenty years as both a hiring manager and recruiter, I have to say the biggest stumbling block I have seen for candidates of all experience levels is the dreaded Sales Role-play. That’s right – if you have never successfully interviewed for a sales rep position, you probably did not know that most companies require their hiring managers to put all candidates through role-play situation. You will be asked to sell anything from the company’s actual products to a generic item that anyone can relate to. I can already see the sweat forming on your brow…..

But the Sales Role-play does not have to be that scary if you are prepared and you practice, practice, practice. In the second, or sometimes the third interview, the manager will ask you to sell a product to him or her to assess your selling skills. How can they hire you if they do not know if you can sell? This is an especially important part of the process for those job seekers with little to no sales experience. I once worked with a candidate named Paula who was a physical therapist and had never sold anything in her life. She called me after she aced the first interview but she was completely freaked out when the recruiter told her that she would need to prepare for a Sales Role-play in the second interview. First of all, I told Paula to take a deep breath and I assured her that I would help her to blow away the manager with her role-play! I taught Paula the Steps of Selling that is critical to understand before anyone can succeed in the role-play. And then I set up several scenarios for her and we practiced everyone one. And guess what? After the second interview, the hiring manager not only said she aced the role-play but she was the best of any other candidate – and a few weeks later she got the job! All because the manager knew she was coachable and could sell, even though she had never worked as a sales rep. Let me share with you a few tips I gave to Paula….

This role-play will probably come after the manager has asked you about your sales process or steps of the sale. (This is why it is so critical for you to know the Steps of Selling backwards and forwards!) They are testing you to see if what you say is what you practice.

Most critical is your ability to ask questions and found out the “customer’s” (manager’s) needs in the role-play. Many candidates get nervous in the interview process and don’t ask enough questions. Do this and you are sunk! The manager does not want to hire someone who talks more than they listen.

After the role-play, make sure you ask the manager for an honest assessment of your performance. If you think you bombed, take the feedback and ask for an opportunity to do the role-play again. Make the changes suggested by the manager and you will show that you are coachable and willing to improve. Foxes As Pets – 6 Ways They Differ From Dogs

A lot of people are enchanted by the idea of owning a pet fox. They’re charming, intelligent animals, and there is a lot of appeal in having a “special” animal that not many people have. 1. Foxes Are Difficult to Train

Dogs are born with a very strong pack mentality. A dog sees you as its alpha, and is hard-wired to want to obey the leader. They live to please you. A fox, however, lives to please itself. While they are very intelligent, the core motivation of a fox is different than that of a dog. The dog wants to please you and make you happy, the fox wants the treat.

2. Foxes Stink

Foxes have a very strong odor. While a dog can take a few weeks without a bath to work up a powerful stink, foxes smell skunky 24/7. This strong, musky odor can be lessened somewhat by having the fox neutered, but it cannot be eliminated entirely.

3. Foxes Are Shy

Many people picture a fox as an awesome pet that they can show off to their friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, the reality almost always falls far short of this. While foxes often become very attached and affectionate with their families, they remain impossibly shy around visitors and strangers.

4. Foxes Have Special Needs

Foxes have special dietary and exercise requirements outside that of a dog. They are extremely energetic, and require loads of exercise every day. A large, carefully-built outdoor enclosure is a must. Which brings me to my next point…

5. Foxes Are Escape Artists

Foxes are much more proficient at getting out of enclosures than even the most determined dog. They can leap six feet in the air, climb up fences, and even cling upside down to climb along a chain link ceiling for short distances. Any enclosure that is meant to keep foxes must not only be large, but impossible to dig out of and have a full roof.

6. Foxes Are Destructive

Many people buy a fox under the mistaken impression that it can be kept as an indoor pet, and left with free run of the house while they are away at work. Nothing could be farther from the truth, particularly with the larger species like red foxes. They will steal and hide anything small enough for them to carry, and shred just about everything they can get their teeth in to. It is nearly impossible to break even the best-trained fox of these behaviors. A dog can be taught not to chew things, a fox can only be taught not to chew things while you’re watching. While a fox is loose in the house, it requires constant supervision.

In conclusion, foxes can make fascinating pets for people who are prepared to care for them. If you are interested in a pet fox, go into it with your eyes wide open, do your research, and understand that caring for a fox is not like caring for a dog.

The one who has pulled up stakes from his family will surely realize later, that he has lost something worth caring. They all can feel the importance of Mother love in it’s intense form. They can realize the importance of father’s intimacy and the confidence of sharing tales with one’s siblings.

Though sometimes out of anger and wrath we behave unfriendly but it does not mean that we don’t care for each other. Family quarrels are bitter things but are of least importance. We should not care about these few bitter memories but rather we must think about the existing love within our family members.

Actually a family is the building block of a society. Many families when combined give rise to a social network. If the building block of a society is scattered then imagine the bitterness that spoils the whole society! But if the family members are linked to each other with the strong bonds of love and intimacy, a prosperous society will be developed.

Family members are amongst those few people in this present day world, who will genuinely worry about you. They will always be there for you, to fall back upon when you have been disillusioned with the outside world. Though at times it feels that they are interfering too much in your life, it’s only because they care for you. If sometimes you feel bad about them, do focus on your mistakes and errors and be sorry for them.

In family life, love plays the role of a magic bullet which helps you to overcome all the difficulties that come across your path. You are able to share all your sorrows and pleasures also with people who really love you and care for you! This Indicator Warned Us Before Every Bear Market

Stocks are selling off. Is this the beginning of a bear market, or just a long overdue pullback?

Traders try to forecast market action with indicators. Some indicators are elaborate. Others are simple. Over time, the simple ones tend to be more useful.

This might be surprising. Many of us think Wall Street is using sophisticated tools to make money. It is.

As individuals, we can’t compete with its sophisticated techniques. That’s why day traders tend to lose money. Wall Street firms are trading in nanoseconds, and our data feeds can’t process information that quickly.

But big Wall Street firms also use simple tools to make money. Many long-term trend-following strategies use simple ideas. And we can use these same tools to ride big trends in the stock market.

The Advance-Decline Line

One tool many large firms use is the advance-decline line. The advance-decline line indicator subtracts the number of stocks that closed down every day (declines) from the number that closed up (advances).

If you look at the market action before significant declines, in each case, the A-D line was in a downtrend before the S&P 500 turned lower. This happened before bear markets that led to losses of 50% or more in 1972, 1999 and 2007. It also happened before the 1987 crash.

The A-D line simply counts how many stocks are going up. In a bull market, we expect most stocks to be going up. In a bear market, the majority of stocks should be going down. That is a simple idea, but, as the charts show, it’s an important indicator to follow.

Near market tops, we see fewer stocks going up. The index is moving up because just a few large stocks are producing gains.

In 2007, housing stocks and financials were still moving up after most stocks peaked.

In 1999, internet stocks were the market leaders while most stocks were in downtrends.

In 1987, traders were buying just the largest stocks for a strategy called portfolio insurance. That insurance failed spectacularly in October.

In 1972, the Nifty Fifty became popular, and investment managers bought just the 50 largest companies.

Narrow buying always leads to a sell-off. That means we should watch the A-D line for an advance warning signal of the next bear market.

The S&P 500 and the Advance-Decline line are in synch. As long as they remain in sync, a bear market is unlikely. We might see a pullback, which is a decline of 5% to 10%. But that will be a chance to buy more stocks and prepare for the next upturn.

The most ironic part is that, he started a software company (that was soon to become Microsoft) by purchasing the software technology from “someone” for only $US50 back then.

2. Abraham Lincoln, received no more than 5 years of formal education throughout his lifetime. When he grew up, he joined politics and had 12 major failures before he was elected the 16th President of the United States of America.

3. Isaac Newton was the greatest English mathematician of his generation. His work on optics and gravitation made him one of the greatest scientists the world has even known. Many thought that Isaac was born a genius, but he wasn’t! When he was young, he did very poorly in grade school, so poor that his teachers became clueless in improving his grades.

4. Ludwig van Beethoven, a German composer of classical music, is widely regarded as one of history’s supreme composers. His reputation has inspired – and in many cases intimidated – composers, musicians, and audiences who were to come after him. Before the start of his career, Beethoven’s music teacher once said of him “as a composer, he is hopeless”. And during his career, he lost his hearing yet he managed to produce great music – a deaf man composing music, ironic isn’t!

5. Thomas Edison who developed many devices which greatly influenced life in the 20th century. Edison is considered one of the most prolific inventors in history, holding 1,093 U.S patents to his name. When he was a boy his teacher told him he was too stupid to learn anything. When he set out on his own, he tried more than 9,000 experiments before he created the first successful light bulb.

6. The Woolworth Company was a retail company that was one of the original five-and-ten-cent stores. The first Woolworth’s store was founded in 1878 by Frank Winfield Woolworth and soon grew to become one of the largest retail chains in the world in the 20th century. Before starting his own business, Woolworth got a job in a dry goods store when he was 21. But his employer would not let him serve any customer because he concluded that Frank “didn’t have enough common sense to serve the customers”.

If Someone is Erasing Or Deleting Their Text Messages, is it a Sign of Cheating?

I often hear from people who can’t help but notice that their husband, wife, boyfriend, or girlfriend has been increasingly sending and receiving text messages. However, when they go to check up on those texts, they’ve often been deleted or erased.

I often hear comments like: “my husband will go and try to find privacy when he’s texting. I’ll see he has a mischievous and excited look on his face and I get a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach. But, when I get a hold of the phone later to see who he’s been texting and what he’s been saying, I find that he’s deleted his entire history. He also does not like to part with the phone and mostly keeps it on him at all times. What is going on? Should I be concerned that he’s cheating on me and using his cell phone to do it?”

These concerns are most definitely valid. Statistics show that it’s increasingly common for people to get caught cheating from their cell phones. And, it’s very tempting for cheaters to sending playful and flirtatious texts to someone who you are cheating with. Plus, the cheater often thinks that all they have to do is hit the delete button to erase all evidence of wrongdoing. (This assumption can be just plain wrong.)

If you confront your loved one about the deleted texts, they’ll often tell you that they were trying to save memory on their phone or that it’s just their habit not to let their messages clutter up their phone. And, I suppose there are cases where this is a valid excuse. But, it will often help to look at how soon after the message’s use that they are actually deleting it. It’s less problematic if they let the message sit there for days or weeks before they get around to erasing it. But, if they’re erasing immediately after it’s sent or received, then this becomes a good bit more suspicious.

If your loved one is even reasonably tech savvy (and they likely are if they’re constantly messaging,) then they likely know that they can easily set their phone to automatically delete old messages after a specified period of time so that having to go in and manually do this is really over kill.

What To Do When Your Loved One Is Constantly Deleting Their Texts: As I see it, you have a few choices here. You can ask or confront them about this, but I have to tell you that an extremely large majority of cheaters will firmly deny any wrong doing. You can ask yourself if there are any places where you’re seeing odd behaviors (like at the computer) and then try to follow up and check those places. You can also check the call log, photos, and sent emails. There is software that allows you to go back in and read the texts and only you can decide if you want to take this that far.

I think it often comes down to the other behaviors that surround the messaging and whether or not you believe that this is all innocent or not. And, if you’ve found this article, I suspect that you might feel like there is more to this than saving phone memory. Sometimes this isn’t the case, but many times, it is.
